It's that time again... the time to celebrate one of our most talented artists and dig deeper to explore their background and the inspiration in their works, yes it's time for 'Artist Of The Week' and this week the spotlight is on our wonderful local photography artist - John Pow!
The ex-policeman turned photographer has spent the last three years honing his skills, and has seen his images go viral several times. He has also been making quite the impression with our clients since releasing his incredible debut image entitled 'Three Bridges' with us just last year. This breathtaking image was shot at sunset across the Forth and featured not only the famous Forth Road and Rail bridges, but also the recently erected 'Queensferry Crossing'. It was a beautiful piece, rich in colour and incredibly fitting for his first limited edition to be released by Robertson Fine Art as the bridges connect Edinburgh to Fife, where both of our galleries are located.
Just looking at this image it's difficult to deny John's incredible talent to capture a moment in time and bring it to life, and this would probably come the highly impressive 40 years of experience shooting landscape that he has under his belt. He juggle his passion for photography with his full time job for thirty odd years, all whilst rising to a senior position in the Scottish public sector. He enjoyed his work immensely, but took the opportunity offered by retirement to pursue photography more seriously and over time has managed to build up a remarkable portfolio of work.
Living in Scotland and in particular, Fife - John draws most of his inspiration from all the wonderful landscapes and coastlines our country has to offer and spending hours on location in order to capture the perfect shot. He has also visited various locations across the world over the years and snapping those moments - adding yet another exciting layer to his body of work.
Just this summer we launched John Pow's first ever collection with Robertson Fine Art as part of our successful 'The Scottish Contemporaries' exhibition which took place in June. The series featured eight stunning new images showing Edinburghs cityscape, the rolling hills of Glencoe and beautiful shots of Eilean Donan castle among others. John attended the opening day of the event and captivated our clients not only with his stunning photographs, but also his warm personality and his obvious devotion to, and deep knowledge about his craft.
We are incredibly excited to see what 2020 will bring for John Pow, as this year has been so successful for this artist - and it already seems to be heading in the right direction with it being announced earlier this year that his are to be featured in the official Forth Bridges Family Organiser and Forth Bridge 130th Anniversary Calendar!
You can see the collection of 'Artist Of The Week' John Pow's limited edition works in both our Edinburgh and Glenrothes galleries and on our website here.
